Effective Treatments for Eye Diseases

Over the past few decades, treatments for eye diseases have evolved significantly, and at Ivy Hills Eyecare, our eye doctor ensures that we stay updated with medical procedures and technology. Our aim is to offer renewed hope for patients affected by various eye diseases, offering them the potential to maintain better vision, eye health and an improved quality of life.

Eye Diseases We Treat:

Glaucoma
Glaucoma is a group of eye diseases caused by increased intraocular pressure, which pose a significant risk to vision if left untreated. The two most common types of glaucoma are open-angle glaucoma, where the drainage angle remains open but the fluid doesn't drain properly, and angle-closure glaucoma, where the drainage angle is blocked, causing a sudden increase in intraocular pressure. Common symptoms include gradual peripheral vision loss, tunnel vision, blurry vision, and seeing halos around lights. However, it's important to note that glaucoma can often progress without noticeable symptoms until significant vision loss occurs. That’s why routine eye exams and early treatment is key, including eye drops, medications, or surgical interventions.

Macular Degeneration
Macular degeneration, affecting the central vision due to damage to the macula, comes in two forms: dry and wet. Dry macular degeneration is caused by an accumulation of yellow deposits, which result in the gradual breakdown of light-sensitive cells in the macula. It progresses gradually, causing blurred central vision and difficulty recognizing faces or reading fine print. Wet macular degeneration is more severe and occurs when abnormal blood vessels grow beneath the macula and leak fluid or blood, causing rapid and significant vision loss. Recognizing symptoms such as distortions or blind spots is vital for prompt diagnosis and treatment.

Cataract Surgery Co-management
Cataracts, the clouding of the eye's lens, can lead to blurred vision and are often associated with aging, as well as factors like smoking, UV exposure, and diabetes. At Ivy Hills Eyecare, we specialize in identifying cataracts and providing comprehensive support throughout the process, from diagnosis to pre and post-surgery care when necessary. Cataract surgery, a highly successful procedure, involves replacing the cloudy lens with a clear synthetic one. Skilled eye surgeons perform this outpatient surgery with a high success rate and minimal discomfort. This advanced approach, focused on quick recovery and improved vision, has become the standard worldwide.

Diabetic Retinopathy
Diabetic retinopathy, a complication of diabetes, affects the retina's blood vessels, potentially leading to vision loss. Symptoms might not appear until the late stages, which is why regular eye exams are crucial, especially for those with diabetes. Early intervention can prevent or slow progression and with close collaboration with your healthcare team, we’ll be able to optimize your blood sugar levels and take a proactive approach to diabetic eye care. Our approach to diabetic retinopathy management is aimed at preventing eye problems and preserving your sight and quality of life.
